EDF power solutions wins a 600 MW solar PV power project in Saudia Arabia

Riyadh, October 29, 2025 – EDF power solutions and Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) for the development of the Samtah Solar PV Power Project. This 600MW solar farm marks a new milestone for EDF power solutions presence in Saudi Arabia.

Located in the Jazan Province, in the southwest part of the country, the project will be developed, financed, built, owned, and operated by a consortium formed by SEC and EDF power solutions. Once operational, in the last quarter of 2027, the 600 MW Samtah Solar Power Project will supply renewable electricity to more than 100,000 homes each year and is expected to avoid over 1.1 million tons of carbon-dioxide emissions annually.

With more than 30 years of presence in the region and more than 20 years in Saudi Arabia, EDF power solutions covers the entire energy value chain from low-carbon generation, through transmission to energy efficiency and demand side management. This signature underlines once more of the company the long-term investment in the Middle East.

EDF power solutions’ portfolio in Saudi Arabia reached 700MW of assets in operation and a pipeline of project under construction of 6GW with some important projects like Al Henakiyah, a 1GW solar plant that should be commissioned in the beginning of 2026 or the Dumat Al Jandal wind power plant, a 400MW project commissioned in 2022 that is the largest wind power plant in the Middle East.

Omar Al-Daweesh, CEO of EDF power solutions KSA, said: “The award of the Samtah Solar Project marks another significant milestone in EDF power solutions’ longstanding partnership with the Ministry of Energy and the Saudi Power Procurement Company. Leveraging extensive technical expertise and deep local knowledge, this project underscores our commitment to advancing Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy ambitions while maintaining high environmental and social standards.
